The term Ob Gyn stands for obstetrician and gynecologist. At times, the term is spelled as Ob/Gyn. By definition, obgyns are health specialists who deal with the health issues that affect pregnancy and the female reproductive system. They work to make sure that women have healthy reproductive systems and general health. They achieve their goal by engaging in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of all diseases, conditions, and disorders affecting female reproductive systems and pregnancy. To find a good ob gyn Belize is a recommendable place to pay a visit.

Becoming an obgyn is not a simple task. There are several, lengthy academic requirements involved in order to qualify. In summary, one needs a 4-year bachelor degree, a 4-year medical degree, and a 4-year residency. The bachelor degree is usually meant to prepare one for the profession and undergraduate coursework should include science courses such as Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. It is important to gain good grades during undergraduate studies because admission into medical school depends on it.

One must make an application into the medical school of their preference in order to gain admission. Admission involves an extensive selection process based on various criteria. After admission, one spends the first two years of studies covering general subjects before they can start to specialize at the third year. General courses covered in the first two years include pharmacology, genetics, microbiology, human anatomy, and pathology among others.

The remaining two years entail working under the direction of a licensed practitioner. Students do a lot of hands-on practice. They have to rotate among gynecology, pediatrics, obstetrics, and internal medicine among other fields. Those who graduate from medical school enter into residency and train even more extensively in health conditions that affect women only, labor, and pregnancy.

It is very important for a practitioner in this field to be licensed. Licensing is mandatory in all the states and territories of the United States. Licensing is done by two key bodies, that is, the American Osteopathic Association, abbreviated as AOA and the American Board of Medical Specialists, shortened to ABMS. Whether one gets licensed by AOA of ABMS depends on which school they graduated from. The available schools are osteopathic or an allopathic schools.

The job of an obgyn requires them to work with women to diagnose, prevent, and treat medical conditions which are specific to women. Cervical cancer, menopause, and breast cancer are examples of such conditions. They also provide care for women while pregnant and even after they deliver.

Other responsibilities obgyns are charged with are offering counseling to patients, gathering and documenting medical histories, and doing yearly examinations. The job requires workers to communicate with patients to learn about their symptoms and other aspects, which makes it important to be good at communication. Success in this career is also dependent on having good interpersonal abilities and empathy.

In the United States, it is estimated that more obgyns will be required throughout to 2022. That means that the demand will continue to increase in the foreseeable future. As of 2014, these workers made 256, 635 US Dollars in a year as a median salary.
