The Clash Between Oral Care And Aspiration Pneumonia

By Jerry Adams

Those people who are currently very old and also too young are more likely to be affected with this pneumonia. Increasing risks of aspiration, weakening the whole body, and affecting the general medical status are common results of that. For extreme cases, death, reduction of life quality, or hospitalization and medicine prices shall be received on the effects as well.

A way of reducing those risks actually involves taking care of your teeth. Always forgetting to brush the teeth before or after meals is never a good practice to maintain. You might be wondering what dental care can contribute or even what really causes the previously talked about condition. This leads us to uncover facts about the clash between oral care and aspiration pneumonia.

Aspiration pneumonia has a different name which means we should expect that that is also different from the other types of the condition. The usual conditions may easily be prevented for there are vaccines available in your local hospital to stop that. However, vaccines cannot be effective in its latter for this is more on what foreign substance got into our system.

Those foreign substances could end up in the lungs when a person aspirates or inhales and that moment is when the whole condition develops. The saliva, reflux of gastric contents or acid, beverages, and food are examples of where the matter was contained. If ever this ends up in our lungs, bacteria shall grow and develop which will be dangerous.

On the case of healthier adults, our body can withstand by trying to protect itself like in a swallowing mechanism that prevent some substances in entering systems. What causes the malfunction of protection could be due to swallowing deficits which are also known as dysphagia. The main issue here affects the lives of younger generation or older generation since their system of immunity has a possibility to be compromised due to not being healthy.

Researches proved how taking care of our teeth can help prevent its risk. In fact, a good dental health shall decrease the possibility of respiratory distress and death. The elderly can be forgetful at their age so it is already our responsibility in reminding them about their health.

An increase in salivary secretions and a decrease in latency time in swallowing shall occur once the swallowing function shall be improved. Swallow reflex is said to be not delayed when the latency has been reduced. In just drinking or eating, fatigue could happen if that was delayed.

Our airways have to be protected all the time. Remember that salivary secretions actually do some cleaning activity in the oral cavity so we can consume food particles well. In other words, both drinking and eating shall be safer and more convenient.

As most elders have fake or no teeth at all, they can still be benefited from it. Caring for that part of the mouth can still be possible to maintain. Cleaning depends on the recommendation coming from dentists so be sure to follow everything since others must have their tongue or gums included for the cleanup.
