By Dorothy Thompson

Kite surfing is a relatively new sport that has attracted many thrill seekers from all over the world. It is a sport that combines the spectacular nature of windsurfing and sailing with a kite. Kitesurf can be carried out in any place that has ever present wind and shallow sounds with few obstructions for the kites.

Anyone seeking to join in the sport will find that the gear that is used is quite portable. It has been designed this way to allow users to enjoy surfing in any type of wind. As a beginner, it is advisable for you to start surfing when there is a gentle or low wind to reduce the risks. If you are just watching from the shore, it may not be easy to gauge the strength of the wind and the danger you are likely to face when you start surfing. The wind can easily overpower you when it is strong and this is what makes the sport extremely dangerous.

Before you can rent or buy the kite surfing equipment, you need to have some basic certificate showing that you know how to surf. Most of the shops will not allow you to rent or buy anything related to kite surfing without providing this certification. They consider the risks too high for this extreme sport.

The risk and rewards for joining this extreme sport are usually very high. This is the main reason why most of the sports enthusiasts treat the ocean with a lot of respect. They also put safety first at all times before they can start having fun. If you are one of those people who like taking risks and enjoy the sight of seeing people riding the waves and having fun, you should consider joining it too.

As part of the training, you will be required to understand the physics of the kite and how to steer it. This is a very important step in kite surfing training. Once you are able to master the skill, the trainers will be comfortable in taking you through the rest of the training. In about 4 hours you should have finished the training and received your basic level certification that will allow you to start kite surfing.

Kite surfing is associated with freedom and the desire to follow the wind as you ride the waves. Surfers however also respect the environment as they skim the waves and soar in the sky. One of the techniques referred to as freestyle allows the surfer to express him or herself with complex and spectacular moves.

There are competitions that are held in various parts of the world where competitors showcase their skills to a panel of judges. In the freestyle technique competition, which is the most competitive, the competitors are given limited time to perform in limited space. The judges shortlist the best two competitors who then battle it out for the prize.

The judges usually look for various things in the competition. Firstly they check on the height that the competitors reach as they perform their stunts and impress them. They also look at how creative and complex the stunts are as well as the risks involved. High points are awarded to those that showcase their moves and styles with a lot of energy.
