By Susan Foster

Most professional decorators would love on selecting some rugs. And the reason for this is because when talking about design, these items that are being used for floors can be able to deliver some packing colors, textures, and patterns into a single comfortable and soft package. But if you do not have any idea on choosing a perfect one, you would surely be wondering on the proper size, fabric, pattern, and type.

Size. The size of rugs that you will be placing in the nursery would depend on what type you prefer. The nursery rug may either be of a large size when you wish to anchor all the other furniture pieces. Or it may also be in small size which is enough for sitting off them independently. If the floors in the room are made from hardwood, it would be best to have the large one.

When choosing a large size, make sure to overlap the furniture pieces, most especially the front legs of a crib, on the carpet edges. Make sure also to choose which can fill in the empty spaces inside the room of a child. But see to it that you are leaving at least few inches between the rug edges and the furniture pieces.

If smaller rugs are preferred, these can help in highlighting some specific items and areas such as the cozy reading corner or the crib. Having this comes with one important rule, and that is to have small accent rugs that are big enough for setting the entire accent pieces or the collection of pieces. However, the actual placement may depend on your item.

And if you want that one particular item will be focused, most probably the large crib, the rug must be placed at the center of that piece. And also, you need to allow the overlapping of its front half on the carpet. And if you are trying to set off some specific areas, grouping the necessary items directly on the carpet can be done.

Balancing the elements. Before purchasing a carpet, you need to consider some important things. Try to determine things which are missing on the design. Consider the necessary elements being used such as the colors and the patterns. Determine as well the various textures. And once you already have figured out what was lacking, filling in the gaps would be the next step.

If your choices have large neutral palettes, choose something with some colors. And if your choice contains a lot of solids, try to break them up with the bold patterns. When you consider the texture, try focusing on creating some contrasts. So when you already have the basic low pile type, opt for a shaggy rug.

Choosing the right materials. There are a lot of options provided for you to choose from but you may have a hard time in choosing what is best for the bedroom of your baby. So the most important thing to do is considering your priorities. Make sure to choose one which is durable, strong, and washable synthetic.

Being worried on toxic residues can be eliminated by opting for organic fibers like cotton and sisal. Rugs that are made from wool would be best as well. Organic wool types usually are hardy and are cleaned easily. These materials are both water resistant and are naturally flame. And also, these contain antibacterial properties, good for people with asthma and allergies.
